Microsoft parental control has multiple features e.g. you can restrict your child to use computer at a specific time of the day and you can impose this time restriction different for different days. Let me elaborate it in details.
First of all, you need to create a user account for your child. Ensure that this is not given the Administrator privilege. Now open control panel by clicking Start-->Control Panel-->Parental Control. Click on the standard user account for which you want to impose parental control. This will open up a screen as below

By default the parental control is turned off. Choose the radio button “On, enforce current settings”. This will in turn enable the other Parental control options namely a) Time Limits b) Games and c) Allow and block specific programs. Turn on the Time Limit option by clicking on the off link on the right hand side. It will open a time table as below. Click on the box time slot, when you would like your child to use the system. The restricted time slots will turn blue.

Similarly, the game option can be turned on. For game, the system will be showing options as below

You have different options here. You can completely restrict your child from playing any game OR you can set a restriction based on the game rating OR you can also allow or clock selected games.
The third option is the most interesting. This will enable you to restrict your child to use specific program in your computer. Once you enable this option, the system will give you a list of programs installed in your system from where you can select specific programs. This is also a good security feature for your computer. You can restrict the guest account by controlling access tp specific applications and there by protect your vulnerable data.
