Have you ever experienced a situation where you wanted a mail very badly but either your internet connection was down or you didn’t have access to internet? I think that most us have faced this situation. The definite solution is to use your tablet or Microsoft Outlook. However, many of us don’t use tablet or even if we do use, there is a limitation on the mail archival. Microsoft Outlook is quite useful in this sense but many people don’t feel comfortable using outlook with webmail. Moreover both of these items cost you money. If you are the one falling in one of these categories, you can access your gmail without a tablet and without Microsoft outlook. But how to access gmail offline?
Gmail offline, a new extension for chrome, is a new release from Google. As the name suggests, the gmail outlook will give you access to your gmail offline. However, this extension is only available with Chrome. You can install the extension from Chrome Websore. In the webstore, search for “gmail offline”. Once you find the extension, click on the button “Add to Chrome” and this extension will be added to your browser.

Once the offline gmail extension is installed, you can see the offline gmail icon in blue in your browser. In offline mode, you can compose, delete, send or even can archive e-mail. The offline mode will automatically synchronize once you regain your network access. In gmail’s offline version, you can find some similarity with the Microsoft Outlook, in the way both the applications handle the folders and provide easy maintenance of these folders.

As on the date of writing this article, the offline gmail extension is still in beta state and the latest version 1.19 was released on 16th November, 2012.
